"Income and Wealth Distribution in Australia" by Anthony Stokes, Lecturer in Economics at the Australian Catholic University, Strathfield.

Provides information on sources of income and social welfare in Australia. Also the relationship between income and wealth. Looks at the effect of government policies on households in different income levels (eg. labour market policies, fiscal policy, monetary policy). No cost.

Are there any issues that teachers should be aware of when using this resource?
Some of this information may not be relevant or appropriate for Year 11 Economics (eg. Lorenz Curve and Gini Coefficient may be beyond the scope of the syllabus).

What suggestions can you make for the use of the resource in the classroom?
This information could be provided to students as a handout in the classroom. The teacher could design some questions to accompany the handout. The students could be asked to research and locate more recent data on this topic and report back to the class their findings.

None that I am aware of.

This information could be printed off for use by students in the classroom. The teacher could design some questions to accompany the table, which would show the impact of income on spending and saving decisions of consumers.

It provides a range of random scenario to illustrate the buying process, marketing and consumer right.
It is highly interactive and free of charge

A very good tool to illustrate key factors affecting consumer decision. Also,extremely useful for self learning/ homework.

Provides hundreds of multimedia lessons in economics and business studies. Each lesson is 15 minutes in length. Uses creative methods such as mnemonics, cartoons and photographs. The lessons follow the NSW syllabuses. Provides completed, extended response answers for all topics in Economics. Comprehensive essay structures for exams revealed.

You will need Flash 5.0 installed on the computer to view the lesson.

What suggestions can you make for the use of this resource in the classroom?
Teachers may use this resource to provide them with innovative ideas in teaching economics. The 15 minute lessons can be used in the classroom. In times when staff are away, the lessons can be used so classes don't fall behind. On proffessional development days, the lessons can be used as a method of inservice for new teachers.

It is made by an Australian, it is based on the syllabus, it runs through key concepts and uses concrete examples. It does not go for long (all three together are 21 minutes). It is free.

Are there any issues that teachers should be aware of when using this resource?
It is fairly informal and somewhat basic. It wouldn't replace an economics teacher. It does not engage strongly and would not exite a gifted and talented student.

What suggestions can you make for the use of the resource in the classroom?
It would be a great resource to play if you were unwell and had a casual teacher. It may be great in smaller parts just for students to see in a different way. Could also be good for students who do not make it to class due to illness.
